Notes on the new beta version
Hi Yonatan.
Here are some notes:
1. Ron & I both agree that once you do an action borrow or lend, there is no indication of what is happening until the other side approves. (The ball metaphor: once you pass the ball to another user you have no indication that you have to wait for the ball to return)
2. when i search CD I don't get anything even though I have 2 items with CD in their title
3. The collapsible triangles are confusing because you have to open the items to see what is hidden (but you don't know in advance that there's important stuff inside). 2 examples: in the messages it is not clear that you have to open them to reply etc. in the item it is not clear that you have to open it in order to see who has borrowed it.
4. Ron: the "add a contact" button seems out of place, and it's hard to find the "contacts" link.
5. Ron: there's no way to see the sent messages.
6. Ron: it is not clear what is "end conversation"
7. Soli: it would be cool to see "view entire conversation" on every message
8. Ron: "Return" is problematic should be "mark as returned". In the borrower the item should still appear with "returned - not confirmed".
9. Ron: bug. was able to lend me an item through yonatan's page on his borrowed items list
10. Ron is missing "note that i borrowed", but soli thinks that this separation is confusing and not helpful.
11. Ron: Messages are not in chronological order, and without time displayed.
12. Ron wants to be able to lend items without confirmation from other users, Soli notes that he wants at least to have the message sent to the lender, and if the lender did not confirm this loan the user can choose to have the item marked as borrowed without the item appearing in the lender's page.
13. Ron: "Ron is willing to lend you" is shorter than "Ron accepts your request..."
14. Ron: You can't "mark as lent" in the messages, only the borrower can do "mark as borrowed".
15. Ron: wants "item promised" feature (I would like more details about this in the thread)
changes concerning the new feature
1+5: I've added a "unanswered sent messages" section in the messages box.
2: the search generally works well BUT - it's far from perfect. I use a full text search, and it doesn't match book: as book, etc. I would be happy to get help investigating this further
3: I've added a tooltip for now. we should get more user feedback and see if we need a better solution.
4: for now I've moved it to the right. I will try to get feedback from new users to see how much of a problem it is.
6: I changed it to "close"
7: I did it, except for conversations with 1 message (the one you see...). let me know if I missed somewhere.
8: I changed it to "mark as returned" and "request to mark as returned" (for owner and borrower respectively)
9: I hope I fixed this - take a look and tell me.
10, 12, 14: we should get feedback from other users and see how much they want this feature. I want to create a balance between specific user needs and user confusion - more buttons == more confusion, but if many users would find that helpful it's worth it.
11: fixed that. added time.
13: I changed and then changed back. X accepted your request has a bit more information - it signifies the action is a result of your request, which X is willing to ... doesn't have. but we can investigate this further with users and consult with more people.
15: I'm sure once we have the current version running we can understand better the pros and cons of the current system and do this kind of fine tuning. of course while consulting with the community.
